Hello, my name is Ashley Hazdra, L.Ac. I am the practitioner and owner of Green Roots Acupuncture & Apothecary located in Bend, Oregon. My interest in medicine and herbology goes back to my childhood when I would request books on herbs and read my grandmother's National Geographic magazines with special attention paid to articles on traditional medicine practices or plants. People's medical use of the world around them fascinated me. This interest continued on and grew. While completing my undergraduate degree at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado I minored in anthropology and made sure I was signed up for medical anthropology, ethnobotany, and biological anthropology. It was during these early college years that I started to receive acupuncture for the first time. This was 'new' to me as it was a different approach to medicine that didn't revolve around plants and their constituents. I slowly became more and more intrigued with acupuncture and when I realized the extent of preservation concerning herbal medicine in the Chinese tradition, I saw a path unfold in front of me. I needed to study Oriental Medicine! I decided to move to the island of Hawai'i to complete the four year, year-round graduate program at the Traditional Chinese Medical College of Hawai'i. What a rich experience that was. As in the Southwest, this environment proved to be rich in cultural history and traditional knowledge allowing me to learn what I could about local plants and their uses. Today I happily practice Oriental Medicine and am very grateful for all of my educational and life experiences. I have found a passion that brings health and happiness to people. I couldn't have asked for more.
